Project

Taking Northwestern design strategy studio, which is partnered with iRobot, our team of five EDI students develop design strategies to enable iRobot product to become thoughtful partners by utilizing smart home technologies.

Timeline

When presented with a relatively broad prompt, our team began our process by conducting research on iRobot’s existing products and its competitors. We were able to narrow down our focus to peace of mind. Through interviews, we sought to understand the past and current experiences of smart device users, and what gives them peace of mind at home. We then began our design process.

We identified three major pain points.

We created a framework to demonstrate the opportunity areas. Through iRobot HyperSense we want to fill in the gap, expanding the product feature so that iRobot devices can understand the user’s needs and perform actions proactively.

We developed four sets of HMW statements to guide our brainstorm sessions.

Design & ideate

Our team brainstormed concepts based on the insight and how might we statements.

Mapping the concepts against the user journey and the bigger picture, we were able to identify the strongest concepts, organize them into an ecosystem, and connect them to the business model.
