Drop clothes donation APP
Competition
Crafting a digital experience that eases user’s clothes donation process and establish a community to encourage the behavior
Challenge
According to worldbank.org, “the fashion industry is responsible for 10 % of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. At this pace, the fashion industry’s greenhouse gas emissions will surge more than 50 % by 2030”. To solve this problem, our team of two designers chose to focus on the donation and up-cycle aspect of the fashion industry to reduce the waste and help people who are in need.
Solutions
Drop carries three main functions,
Providing information on nearby donation center, thrift store, donation bin and trucks for easy donation process.
Presenting DIY videos feed for up-cycle ideas.
Creating a community with ranking and point rewards systems to motivate the users.
Process
The team began the process with identifying the target users and preliminary brainstorming. We then conducted secondary research and 6 interviews with fashion designers, people who donate often and people who rarely donate.
Throughout the process, we discovered three main tensions,

We first put down our ideas on Mural to map out the features. We then moved on to designing the framework.

Takeaway
Entering this competition, our initial idea was to provide a platform for fashion design students to buy used fabrics or clothes for their school project. After 6 interviews, we realized that it wasn’t viable. So we pivoted to our current version.
From a design perspective, I explored the possibilities of Neumorphism and usage of light and shadow.
